Is colon cleansing a scam?  That’s a good question.  And the best answer I can give you is yes and no.

The idea of cleansing the colon is not a scam, nor is the need to cleanse the colon.  The foods we eat are loaded with preservatives, chemicals, and toxins which get trapped inside the intestinal tract.  Over time, they build up and cause all kinds of problems from simple constipation and bloating to fatal diseases such as strokes and heart attacks.

A colon cleanse removes the buildup, allowing for proper absorption of nutrients from food into the blood stream, which delivers it to every system in the body- immune, repertory, circulatory, etc.  It’s vital that these nutrients are received and delivered so that the body works properly.  If they aren’t, you begin to feel sluggish, lethargic, and are prone to illness.

There are many colon cleansing products out there, and yes, some of them are scams.  Some make outrageous claims, such as huge weight loss.  Others are very hard on the system and have actually caused more constipation and bloating to the user than before they started using the product.

Before beginning a colon cleansing program, do your research.  Read customer reviews found both on and off the manufacturer’s website.

Natural, herbal colon cleanses abound.  These are typically less strenuous on the body and don’t interrupt your daily schedule.

Colonics – using water to flush out the colon – is a little risky, so I would definitely go to a licensed professional at a reputable clinic.  It’s risky in that if a person does not know what they’re doing, they can cause a lot of damage.  A tube is inserted via the rectum where water is forced into the colon and intestine several times to clean it out.

Just do your research before trying any colon cleanse.
